CMS Watch has come out with its Enterprise Portals Report 2009 and it appears like Microsoft SharePoint may be splitting the vendors into camps — those that have been able to rise above and those that have risen to challenge MOSS. It’s interesting to see who shows up where.

Feels like we talk a lot about compliance concerns for organizations these days. And the fact is that we do because it has become such a huge regulatory concern that can cost millions of dollars if not carefully managed. DocsCorp has released an upgrade to its document comparison software pdfDocs compareDocs that they believe goes even further in supporting their clients in their compliance needs.

Another one bites the dust — er — makes the list. KMWorld’s List of Trend Setters for 2008 also includes Ektron and their CMS400.Net content management solution.

Now you all know who Ektron is, they are the little guy that beat out the likes of Vignette, Microsoft, Open Text, Oracle, SDL Tridion, Sitecore, EMC and others for top spot in Gartner’s MarketScope for Web Content Management 2008. The only one they didn’t “beat” was Interwoven.

According to Hugh McKellar, KMWorld editor-in-chief, “Ektron has proven that they are committed to providing both quality and excellence in their solutions that benefit the customer experience.”

Other than winning all these awards, Ektron’s been pretty busy this year. They opened offices in Canada, brought social networking into the office as part of their solution offering, integrated CMS400.net with Silverlight, launched a new partner portal and more. Whew…busy little beavers aren’t they.

Now on version 7.5 of the web content management solution CMS400.Net, we expect to see even more from these guys over the next little while.

While we don’t argue with these vendors making the list — in fact, in most cases it’s easy to see why they do — it would be nice if KMWorld was a little more specific on what “trend setting” really means and how it applies to each vendor. Maybe we’ll see more detail in the Septemeber issue of the magazine when the list is released in full.

The Social Media industry seems to get just a little bit bigger every hour and it’s amazing how many different vendors can come on the scene and offer products and solutions that can help us design and build communities of one sort or another.

As an enterprise though, you need to be sure you are working with the right solution provider. Someone who is not only selling you a service, but helping you truly understand why and how to implement it. The Gilbane Group has announced its Boston conference agenda, as well as the pre-conference workshops. The conference is scheduled to take place December 2-4, 2008, at The Westin Copley Place in Boston, MA. While the full conference program is not yet published, we already have some insight into what will be on Gilbane’s menu this time around.

The agenda includes two days filled with all kinds of enterprise search, WCM, content strategies and social media fun. And this is just a tip of the iceberg!

Microsoft Licensing is confusing at the best of times. If you’ve ever looked at their SharePoint 2007 licensing spreadsheet, then you’ll understand what a headache really is. Ektron is getting so busy it opened up a Partner Portal to help meet the needs of their customers worldwide. We are fairly certain that it’s not because Gartner gave them the highest ranking possible in their Marketscope for Web Content Management — but it probably didn’t hurt.

Atlassian has released the latest version of their Confluence enterprise wiki software, officially releasing their SharePoint Connector and a new Connector that will make many MS Office and Open Office users happy.
